Kill the Whale

At Bennett Hall, 62 Centre Street

Kill the Whale: A Musical Odyssey

Kill The Whale is a Musical and Album by singer and composer Daniel Emond, that re-imagines Moby-Dick as a series of songs baring the souls of each character on board Captain Ahab’s vessel.
The score, soaked in rock and hip hop, folk and roots, rhythm and blues, psychedelia and soul, like the culturally inclusive cast of actor-musicians, is an eclectic reflection of America’s diversity.
The piece seeks to deconstruct biases, using gender-bending motifs to place non-males in the roles of authority, and casting people from opposite ends of the world as soul mates.

Daniel Emond is an actor, a singer and a musician living in New York City. Daniel plays regularly in NYC with his bands Blue Eyed Bettys and Lion & Spaniel, in addition to his own work.
His work has been seen at Knitting Factory, Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge, PIANOS, The Slipper Room, Bowery Electric, Arlene's Grocery, Pete's Candy Store and The Living Room.

This performance will have an introduction from Daniel's friend and fellow Melvillean, acclaimed author Nathaniel Philbrick (In the Heart of the Sea, Why Read Moby-Dick).
